List of Course Topics

Working with Families

This two-day training will aim to enhance your ability to work with the child and the family. We will look at the complexities and the dilemmas of this area of work from a psychodynamic model.

Creative Work with Children

Using puppets, music and play, we will explore the most effective ways of working with children, to support their difficulties and development.

Working with Anger

Anger is a strong emotion that everyone feels. Helping clients to deal with their anger appropriately, in a responsible and controlled way, is often a part of the therapeutic work that children benefit from most. This training aims to support you in doing exactly that.

Cultural Differences

Clients and counsellors are faced with a modern-day world of equal opportunities. A deeper understanding is essential to be an effective counsellor, whilst working with clients who present with cultural dilemmas and issues.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

This training aims to give some insight into working with children who present with symptoms of ADHD and other associated conditions. You will learn effective skills, whilst developing a deeper understanding of these complex issues.

Domestic Violence and Abuse

Working with clients who have suffered from domestic violence or abuse is never easy. This training will support you in developing the necessary skills and understanding to work effectively in this difficult area.

Communicating Through Play

This course will focus on developing communication skills that are verbal and non-verbal, whilst engaging the client in therapeutic play. We will explore effective ways of interacting with children and young people in order to support them with their difficulties.

Psychological Splitting

Psychological splitting is a phenomenon that can affect people’s lives deeply. We will explore effective ways of understanding and working with the therapeutic process.

Therapeutic Assessments

A therapeutic assessment is essential when working with children and families. We will explore the benefits and dilemmas of assessments, taking into account various therapeutic approaches.

Transference, Counter-transference & Advanced Empathy

This training will be an experiential group and will help link theory to experiencing. This will assist us in being able to decide which parts of our personal experience with a client are useful to bring into therapy sessions, and how to do this. The training will help to make you a more effective therapist.

Creative Therapies with Adults & Inner Child

This training will show you how to use creative media to give you a fast and effective way of accessing the unconscious and the conscious world of the client. A range of different methods and media will be used during the course.

Bullying & Power Dynamics

This group experience will introduce a new theory of bullying and power dynamics. There will be an experiential aspect to link theory to experience. This will help us in being able to recognise how the power dynamics of ourselves and others disguise what is actually happening. Bullying depends on tricking the self and others into believing something false. Seeing through this renders bullying ineffective and enables authentic and healthy relating.

How to Get the Best from Supervision

This introductory supervision training is ideal for those of you who supervise others as a part of your line management role. How to be more effective in your role is the aim of this training.

Risk Management

BACP recommend that all counsellors are trained in risk management. The training will include how to risk assess clients and manage Health & Safety issues.
